I’m pretty sure Chris had never looked forward to cream of potato soup until today. And while it may not have tasted that great, it was a great sign that Chris is doing better as he’s now past the “clear liquids only” diet. In fact, Dr. Belzer told Chris that he may get to go home as soon as Wednesday. So Chris had another good day – he hasn’t had any pain, he seems to be tolerating some food, and he’s getting out for his walks at least 4 times a day. And now he finally gets to look forward to going home!! This also means that if all goes well, Chris will get to enjoy his big birthday from home this weekend – that’s right, he turns the big 4-0 on Saturday (and I’m probably going to pay the price for announcing it on the Internet)!
Hello! Karen writing tonight. Chris had a ground breaking day as he received food for the first time in 16 days. He had a feast of Cherry Jell-O and juice for lunch, and some beef broth and orange ice chips for dinner. Yum Yum! So far so good. No pain since he started the food. He was weighed today. On July 30th he was 186 lbs., he is now at 152. He asked me to make sure to bring a belt before he goes home so the entire hospital does’t see his flowered boxers. I told him he may need some skinny pants until he puts some weight back on. I have to go now, Jaxson says he saw green aleins-one is a baby one I guess. (he has a cold and seems to be a little out of it) Chris doesn’t get to see the boys for a while as they both have a cold.
Hello! Karen posting tonight. Just a quick note as I curently have 2 little boys with runny noses and are both looking for some mommy love. Chris had another good day today. He’s looking forward to a possible double J day tomorrow – Juice and Jell-O. Doesn’t sound so good to me, but to someone who has not had anything but ice chips in 2 weeks it sounds pretty darn good. If everything goes o.k. tonight, he gets to eat. He did find out his recent problems were from an infection in his throat from the tube he had. He is currently being treated with antibiotics along with all his other drugs. He’s looking forward to his football day tomorrow. He’s pretty tired of being in the hospital, but probably won’t be out before Wed. or Th. at the earliest. Thank you for all the prayers. He’s still hoping all his healing in his colon is going o.k.
Karen, Brenden, Jaxson, Pete and I went to see Chris tonight. Brenden was excited to go see Chris so he could tell him that he lost his second tooth while eating an apple today. I’m elated to report that Chris is feeling and looking so much better! I think that’s the best I’ve seen him look in weeks. All of the doctors and nurses who saw him today told him they think he’s finally turned the corner. He looked good, he sounded good, and he’s anxious to start eating again just so he can get out of the hospital. Unfortunately, I still don’t think they’re going to start him on food for a few days. They really just want him to rest up now…which seems somewhat ironic since it seems like it’s the night nurses that keep waking him up! He said one of the nurses was all excited and woke him up last night just to tell him his Twins won (which he thought was very sweet and funny). Although I didn’t clear it with Chris, I think it’s safe to say the visitor and phone call ban is no longer in effect. Thanks for all of your thoughts, prayers, blog comments, and well wishes…it’s been a tough week and it means so much that so many people are supporting Chris and his family.
p.s. Pat – the big green spiders were a huge hit with the boys! Jaxson brought one home and said that he’s going to put it under his bed while he sleeps so it doesn’t “freak him out”.
Just a quick update – they finally removed Chris’s drainage tube tonight. However, Chris is now running a fever, so they’re trying to get that under control. They also moved Chris to a private room tonight (Rm 494), so we’re hoping he’ll finally be able to get some sleep. Karen said that Chris is definitely frustrated and getting a little fiesty, but I think that’s a good sign (even though it’s hard to imagine Chris being fiesty).
Hello! Karen posting tonight. Chris had a disappointing day. He was looking forward to getting the drainage tube out of his nose/throat and Dr.B. said maybre this afternoon, Chris just had to have a CT scan before they took it out. Well, the CT scan showed a small blockage in his small intestine so they’re going to keep the tube in. It frusterates him because he can’t talk withkit in, or sleep, and it’s hard to walk. He also knows he can’t eat until it’s out and the longer he can’t eat the longer he has to stay in the hospital. So he just wants to get everything moving along, he’s getting tired of being in the hospital although the staff has been really wonderful with him. He misses going to work and seeing everyone and he’s missing the boys. Brenden and Jaxson both asked to see daddy tonight, but I think they may freak if they see the tube coming out of his nose, so I put them off onto Grandpa tonight. On that note I need to get them to bed. Chris still can’t talk on the phone, so I’ll try to keep everyone up to date. Another big thank you to everyone for all the prayers, gifts and offers to help. Don’t worry, we will be taking you up on your offers. My parents have been here for the past 2 weeks, so we’ve had a lot of extra help. My sister Sarah, Pete and Chris’s mom are pinch hitting for the next few days. Thank you all, Chris and I are so blessed to have such an amazing support system with all the family and friends. We don’t have the words to say how much we appreciate everything. Sweet dreams.
Chris is feeling just a bit better again today, but still not feeling very well. Sounds like the nausea is under control, but he only got about 2 hrs of sleep last night, so he’s completely exhausted. He’ll need his rest today, so the “visitor and phone call ban” is still in effect…thanks for your understanding. He actually can’t answer his phone right now anyway – it’s a little unclear why, but I think it has something to do with all the tubes that are connected to him.
Please keep those thoughts, prayers, and good vibes coming!
